There are few settlements on the inside passage up the coast of British Columbia. When the ferry I was on passed this ramshackle old ruin, I drew like the clappers to try and get something down. The resulting painting shows the house falling in to the sea at the old cannery in Butedale, miles from civilisation. I much prefer to paint an old wreck than a perfect building.
